And, some answers
The alcohol is context, not confession
Yesterday I wrote, “Asking why?” And said—not promised—there might be answers. Right now, this is as close as I can get.
Why am I doing this, writing every day?
Not for the readers, though I’m glad they’re here. Not for the views and numbers, though post #119 feels different to post #1. I’m writing because it’s a part of the day that’s completely mine. No brief, no customers, no cricket plan. Just the page and whatever arrives—that’s worth protecting.
Why the alcohol thread?
Because it’s real. Not because I’m lost to it—I’m not—but because it’s the thing I’ve been least honest about with myself. ADS isn’t a sobriety project, it’s about transparency. The alcohol is context, not confession.
Why the commitment?
Because I’ve started and walked before—sound familiar? Quietly, without fanfare, usually when it got hard or nobody was watching. The commitment is public enough that I can’t do that here. I’m never proposing rules or laws or even knowledge here—I’m just coming up with different ways of thinking.
Who is the audience?
The podcast was right. Nearly everything we do is for an audience of one. The posts that land hardest are the ones I need to write, not the ones I thought would perform, or be well received. The audience of one is me. Of course you’re welcome to listen in; I genuinely fret when I feel a lack of engagement. Most of you who read along, I know. But nearly all of this is a note to oneself. If some of it helps you, then, seriously, all the better. I would be stoked.
And the why behind all of it?
Still working this out—maybe I never will. But, as in cricket, and batting, my domain—if you know what you’re doing, if you know your strengths and weak spots, acknowledge them, respect them, and understand what the bowler is trying to do, you will always have a better chance. It’s about being conscious. That’s all.
