We’ve spoken about “fools’ advice” before—the dangers and downside.
But what if we don’t listen?
It’s true, we spend so much time in our own heads. I know I do. Mainly I curse my busy mind—yep, four o’clock in the morning is no fun. That thinking, though, is a mechanism to reinforce beliefs, making ourselves certain the path we are on is the right one. And in the face of questioning, tell me if I’m wrong, we can become all the more certain.
To me it feels like false confidence—but yes, it seems necessary in allowing us to do our work.
Conversely, what if the advice is well-placed? What if they are on to something? Something that might help solve a problem we have in front of us. Not fools’ advice, more wise counsel. What could we do with that?
Fools’ advice is common. Wise counsel is rarer. When true guidance arrives—and you’ll know—put the busy know-all mind down, and listen. You can always go back to your stuff tomorrow.
