Three jars, not two
Saving is hard, spending easier, but giving opens a whole new world
One of the most thoughtful concepts I came across in 2025 was the three-jar principle.
Many children find themselves coerced into a two-jar save-and-spend rule, yes, one for saving, the other for spending. Pushing this a step further, parents can add a third jar: the Giving Jar.
If I were the parent of teenagers again, the three-jar approach would be a no-brainer. Saving is hard, spending easier, but giving opens up a whole new world.
I’m not sure how many parents are reading along, but a giving principle is open to anyone.
The jar doesn’t have to be literal. The principle does.
