Catching a wave
Miss the moment and it's gone
Torquay. Bells Beach. The surf capital of the world is just down the road.
In surfing, catching a wave means paddling hard enough to match its speed—only then will it pick you up. Miss the moment, and it’s gone. At least, that’s what I’m told—I don’t surf.
Metaphorically it can translate to seizing new, fleeting opportunities—there’s no shortage of them in the current climate—it seems everyone has a surfboard now.
The question isn’t whether there are waves. There always are. The question is whether you’re paddling hard enough—and whether you can tell a good wave from a crowded one.
How are the waves where you are?
Nick
