To me, the question relates to media.
From the title, you could get to procrastination, delaying, all of that, but, for example, you pick up the phone to check the weather, and before you know it you’ve been to WhatsApp, Twitter, email, and the browser you opened last night to check out the new Srixon irons. Then, in my case, you forget you were checking the weather!
The problem isn’t that we can’t finish what we start. It’s that we cannot resist the temptation to start something new before finishing what we started. In this case, the simple task of checking the weather.
Every notification, headline and new tab offers up another invitation to go somewhere else. Most times, we accept, telling ourselves we’re just checking something, leaving the original intention waiting.
The question might not be whether you can finish what you start, but if you can stay with it long enough to give yourself a chance. Next time you reach for your phone, try remembering why you picked it up in the first place.
Finish what you start? It’s harder than you think.
